About
As part of our effort to pitch our services to new clients, we conducted competitor analyses. Our approach involved a thorough analysis of our client's current app or website, identifying areas that could be improved. Then, we examined their competitors' apps to identify industry best practices, trends, features, and design elements. By doing so, we provided our clients with a comprehensive view of their competition and offered suggestions on how they could improve their products and differentiate themselves in the market.
Who I performed research for
Neiman Marcus, a luxury department store known for its high-end fashion and accessories. They did not end up becoming one of our clients.
Famous Footwear, a retail chain that specializes in discounted shoes. They did not end up becoming one of our clients.
Dollar General, a discount variety store that sells everything from groceries to home goods at low prices. They did not end up becoming one of our clients.
Bring a Trailer, an online marketplace for classic, collector, and enthusiast cars. We built an app from scratch for them, not currently on the app store yet but expected to release summer/fall of 2023. View the full project case study here.
My Process
The process involved several steps to ensure we provided prospective clients with the best results. To begin, we conducted thorough research to identify their competitors and understand the market landscape. This step was crucial in helping us develop a comprehensive understanding of the business environment and identify opportunities for them.
Next, we created a detailed spreadsheet to compare the common features of our client's app or website with those of their competitors. This allowed us to identify any gaps in features and help them stay ahead.
Once we had a clear understanding of the market and competitors, we began mapping out the main, most relevant, and/or important flows. This ensured that we had a comprehensive understanding of the prospective client’s competitors and of the client’s own current app.
We narrowed down the areas with the greatest potential impact in the most used areas of the app. By doing so, we were able to provide prospective clients with specific recommendations on how to improve their app to increase user engagement and satisfaction. Our recommendations were tailored to the unique needs of each client and were designed to help them achieve their business goals.
